
Nation celebrates 73rd raising day of territorial army on 9 October 2022
It was on this very date in 1949 that the Territorial Army was raised by the first Governor General of the nation, C Rajagopalachari.

The Territorial assist, and is a part of, Regular Army of India. It relieves the Regular Army from static duties and provide manpower to it as and when required. Territorial Army also helps in rescue and relief operations during natural calamities and maintain essential services in situations where security of the nation and lives of its people is at stake.

Territorial Army (TA) presently has a strength of almost 50,000 personnel comprising of Departmental TA units such as Railway, IOC, ONGC, and Non Departmental TA units of Infantry Battalion (TA) including Home & Hearth Battalions, Ecological Battalion (TA) affiliated to various Infantry Regiments and Engineer Regiment (TA) for maintenance of Line of Control Fencing. Another unit of TA – a Composite Eco Task Force for National Mission for Clean Ganga – is being raised at Allahabad.
TA has fought wars in 1962, 1965 and 1971 and also taken part in several important missions such as operation Pawan in Sri lanka, Operation Rakshak in Punjaband J&K, Operation Rhino and Bajrang in the North East.

TA personnel are entitled to all benefits applicable to the Indian Army, except gratuity and pension which are based on number of actual years served.

Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav passes away at 82
e breathed his last on October 10, 2022 at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram.
He has been a 3-time Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, one-time Minister of Defence in central government, seven-time parliamentarian and 10-time MLA in his life. He was curently a sitting MP from Mainpuri constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Projects worth over Rs 3900 crore dedicated to Gujarat by the PM
He laid the foundation stone of multiple projects such as ONGC’s Nandasan Geological oil production project, Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA), Mehsana, four laning of a section of NH-68 from Patan to Gozariya; a water treatment plant at Chalasan village of Jotana taluka of Mehsana district; a new automated milk powder plant and UHT milk carton plant at Dudhsagar Dairy.
On this occasion, Modhera was declared as India’s first 24×7 solar-powered village and a Projection Mapping project was also inaugurated at Sun Temple here at Modhera.

India hosts U17 FIFA women’s world cup 2022 from tomorrow October 11, 2022
Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Singh Thakur started a campaign titled #KickOffTheDream” to show support to the Indian women’s U 17 football team set to participate in the U17 FIFA women’s world cup from Oct 11th. This is the first time that India is hosting this event.
Its the 7th edition of this under-17 football championship which is held once every two years since its inception in 2008. Originally it was to take place in 2020 but the COVID-19 pandemic postponed it to 2022.
India, Morocco and Tanzania are making their debuts with this edition.
Spain are the defending champions having won their first title in the last edition of 2018.
Mascot: Ibha – an Asiatic lioness – is the mascot of this championship. Asiatic lions – a lion subspecies – is only found in the wild in India today. The name Ibha means “one with good vision or judgement” in Khasi, a language spoken primarily in the state of Meghalaya.

Services continues to lead the medal table at National Games 2022 with 51 gold among a total of 113 medals. Haryana (31 gold medals) and Maharashtra (30 gold medals) stand at second and third spots currently. Host Gujarat lies at lowly 13th spot with 12 gold medals.
Indonesia considering giving its prisoners on capital punishment a chance to live
As per the legislation, prisoners will be judged based on a 10-year probationary period that whether their conduct deserve replacing the death sentence with extended life term.
China already has a system like this where the probationary period is of 2 years.
over 60% of the world’s population live in countries where the death penalty is retained, such as China, India, the United States, Singapore, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Japan, and Taiwan.
As of 2022, 55 countries retain capital punishment, 109 countries have completely abolished it de jure for all crimes, seven have abolished it for ordinary crimes, and 24 are abolitionist in practice.
According to Amnesty data, some 579 executions were recorded worldwide in 2021, a 20 percent increase from 2020.
Large increases were seen in Iran and Saudi Arabia, while data on China was not included because the government there designates executions a state secret.
