By India Today Web Desk: Former England captain Nasser Hussain has heaped praise on Eoin Morgan, calling him England’s greatest-ever white-ball captain. Morgan has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
Writing for Sky Sports, Hussain called Morgan England’s greatest white-ball captain, insisting that he changed the culture of England’s white-ball game.
“It goes without saying that Eoin is England’s greatest-ever white-ball captain, a World Cup-winning captain. He changed the culture of English white-ball cricket. If you look at where we were at the 2015 World Cup in Australia when we lost to Bangladesh to where we are now, the change is remarkable,” wrote Hussain.
The former cricketer added that Morgan was a hugely-respected captain and had a crystal clear through process all the time.
“He’s cool, calm and was a hugely-respected captain in and out of that team. He’s crystal clear at all times in his thought process,” Hussain added.
He said that Morgan gave England one of the most special moments in English cricket with the World Cup win at Lord’s.
“He gave us one of the most special moments in English cricket with that World Cup final win at Lord’s, it was one of the great days. A great occasion and great finish with the Super Over,” Hussain added.
Hussain hailed Morgan as a player as well, calling him a revolutionary player, who was absolutely destructive.
“You’ve also got to remember Morgan the player. He was revolutionary. He was playing all the shots we see now long before others were; reverse-sweeping, reverse-scooping and being dynamic. At his best, he was absolutely destructive,” Hussain added.
Morgan captained England in a record 126 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 72 Twenty-20 Internationals (T20s) in 2019. His 118 victories as captain in both formats is also a record. He leaves with a slew of records, including the most ODI runs for England (6,957), the most T20I runs for England (2,458), and the most sixes for England in both formats.
