The CBSE Assessment Scheme 2022-23 has been released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The CBSE has announced its decision to return to the annual examination scheme for the assessment year 2022-23, or 10th and 12th Board Exams 2023, in an official notice. The examination pattern for the Class 10, 12 board exams has also been changed.
The board indicated in a circular addressed to affiliated schools that there will be only one term or one board examination this academic year (as was the norm earlier). The final examinations will cover the whole syllabus (as per the CBSE Curriculum 2022-23).
However, the exam format has been revised. The question papers for the CBSE 10th Board Exams 2023 will have 40% MCQs (multiple choice questions), 20% of the questions would be competency-based, while the remaining 40% would be subjective or short/long answer type questions. For Class 12, the breakup would be 30% competency-based questions, 20% objective or MCQ questions, and 50% long/short type answers. The table below summarises the same.
Class 10 | Class 12 | |
Objective Type Questions | 40% | 20% |
Competency Based Questions | 20% | 30% |
Short/Long Answer Type Questions | 40% | 50% |
According to the updated curriculum, the board will soon release Sample Papers. The sample papers will follow the new exam pattern. The curriculum, which was not divided into terms, was already provided by the Board. The official notification for one annual exam is currently available on the board’s website.
Meanwhile, the CBSE Board Exams 2022 is currently going on. The Class 10 board exams will conclude on May 24, 2022, while Class 12 board examinations will conclude on June 15, 2022. The board is yet to announce the assessment criteria for CBSE Results 2022. The weightage of CBSE Term 1 and Term 2 results is expected to be announced before the results are released.
