The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has included a new category, Agriculture and Allied Sectors, in accordance with recent changes. According to the announcement made on the official website, “NIRF has added a new category, called Agriculture & Allied Sectors. Institutions interested in participating can do so under “Agriculture & Allied Sectors.”
Additionally, NIRF established a brand-new category, research institution, last year. The overall number has increased to 12 with the inclusion of the Agriculture and Allied Sectors category. The MoE has also changed the terminology of the discipline of architecture to architecture and planning.
Rankings of NIRF
The Ministry of Education introduced the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2015 to rate Indian universities and colleges according to objective standards to encourage competitive excellence. Additionally, more institutes participated in the NIRF rankings in 2022. 6,272 people participated in the rankings in 2021 compared to 7,254 last year.
NIRF Rankings 2023: Registration
The registration period for institutions, colleges, and universities to take part in the NIRF rankings 2023 has begun, according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). According to an official notice, all of the institutions that took part in the previous India Rankings exercise have been pre-registered. To confirm institution details for India Rankings 2023, a notification has already been issued to the heads of the relevant institutions in this regard.

Any institute interested in participating in the ministry’s 2023 NIRF India rankings but still needs to register must apply to nirfindia.org. In case of any query, they can email helpdesk@nirfindia.org or call 011-40159583/87/89 to reach the National Board of Accreditation.
Rankings Parameters for NIRF
The NIRF ranks educational institutions based on criteria like outreach and inclusivity, graduation outcomes, teaching, learning, research and professional practice, and resource availability. The rankings have been made public for 12 categories, including research institutes, management, pharmacy, engineering colleges, medicine, and dentistry. There are around 16 to 18 sub-characteristics in addition to these six main parameters for ranking the institutions in various categories.
Total Number Of Categories In NIRF Ranking
This list now includes Agriculture and Allied Sectors, bringing the total number of categories to 12. Before 2022, there were 10 categories altogether. Last year, the ministry added the category of Research Institution.
Registration for the NIRF India Rankings is open and will end at 5 PM on November 18, 2022. On October 17, 2022, registration for India Rankings 2023 opened.
The official notification reads, “New Discipline is added, namely, Agriculture and Allied Sectors. Institutions willing to participate may register under Agriculture & Allied Sectors, Overall & Research Category. Architecture discipline is renamed as Architecture and Planning.”
