I have been trying in vain all afternoon and well into the wee hours of the morning to get Visual Studio installed I am currently Running a 64bit Windows 8.

However, every time I try it gets part way through and fails. Doing some reading, I have found several explanations. One suggests an issue with an update released back in August I looked for it, but could not find that particular update to be uninstalled, so I assume it is not present – plus the log file has none of the mention of encryption that was indicative of this issue.

I have tried disabling File History the backup routine since some articles mentioned issues with backup software granted, they all mentioned third party software – which I do not run. I have run repair routines from the microsoft website for. NET to no avail.

I have restored my computer via Windows Restore to the time just before I started trying to install it and that did nothing. This did not do anything. I have tried installing just the programming portion of the software and again met with pretty well the same result.

I have verified that Windows is up to date. I am pretty well at the end of my rope, and have pretty well exhausted the handful of threads in which a similar problem is discussed and have no idea how to proceed next. The only solution that anyone seems to have reported working is to re-install windows.

But I just got Windows re-installed a couple of months ago and really do not want to spend even more time redownloading various applications and their associated data Many, many Gigabytes worth yet again so soon. Surely, there must be a way to solve this that is not so drastic! I had also though I don’t think this wound up having any bearing on it removed.

NET from my computer via the control panel remove windows features section. I also unplugged my computer from the internet to prevent it from redownloading the Windows updates before I was done. Then after a reboot, I was able to successfully install Visual Studio ! Note: If you follow my directions, you do so at your own risk.

I HIGHLY recommend creating a restore point and backup up any critical data before you proceed, just in case anything goes squirrely on you.
