Hi, I don’t know if the developers at windows will read this but thank you for the work you’ve done on virtual desktops in Windows However, it would also be great if Microsoft can work towards having different icons in different virtual desktops.
While i can change the backgrounds and rename them, it means I constantly need to open apps just to have them sitting in a specific desktop which in turn becomes memory heavy. It would be great if i could demacate apps for separate use e. That way when i switch desktops, the icons i see reflect the use or function of that desktop without me clicking on the start button to find apps needed or even seeing all apps for all functions pinned to the task bar or worse case scenario, all app icons for all functions in specific function desktops.
PS – another great improvement would be the ability to turn off recommendations on the start button or an option to show all apps not just pinned ones by default.

How do I have different icons on multiple desktops?
Multiple desktops are great for keeping unrelated, ongoing projects organized, or for quickly switching desktops before a meeting. There seems to be no limit to the number of desktops you can create. But like browser tabs, having multiple desktops open can slow down your system. Clicking on a desktop on Task View makes that desktop active. In the Task View pane, click New desktop to add a virtual desktop.
Each virtual desktop you create allows you to open different programs. Windows 10 allows you to create an unlimited number of desktops so you can keep track of each one in detail. Each time you create a new desktop, youll see a thumbnail of it at the top of your screen in Task View.
Click System, then select Tablet Mode in the left panel. A tablet mode submenu appears. Toggle Make Windows more touch-friendly when using your device as a tablet to On to enable Tablet mode. Set this to Off for desktop mode. On the desktop window, click the Task view icon from the taskbar. Make sure that you are on the desktop screen that has the application that you want to move. While continuing to hold down the Alt key, choose the program you want to open by clicking Tab until the correct application is highlighted, then release both keys.

You can test it yourself by sending a shortcut to the desktop. It sends it to all. Delete it from Desktop 3, and all shortcuts are gone from all desktops. A simple way to demonstrate this is to create a recycle bin shortcut on virtual desktop three. It is now on all three desktops.
Go to desktop 2 and delete it there, and it is now gone from all three. Like you, I wanted to use different desktops for different desktop folder usages.
Can’t do it. Multiple desktops is nothing more than a virtualized multiple monitor configuration, without the benefit of isolating desktop icons to a specific monitor. Now in Windows 10, I was hoping to use it like they say I just upgraded to windows 10 last night.
This morning, as I was moving all the icons back the way I had had them organized before Windows decided to clutter them all to the left of my screen, I discovered “multiple desktops” with the “task view”.
Unbelievable that I can’t do this. I have no use for a second desktop that doesn’t function like an actual second desk I can’t figure out why Microsoft didn’t provide this functionality.
Logging in under another user’s account might solve this problem, but that is NOT how we want to manage our computers. We do not want entirely separate accounts, we just want our “clutter” to be organized in a logical way. I didn’t like the immensely time-consuming and draining headaches associated with managing “multiple accounts” with MS OSs. We don’t have “privileges” issues in our household and basically it’s a “privileges” nightmare using multiple accounts.
As is accessing and installing programs, customization, maintenance, etc. For me, managing ONE account is most efficient for the way our family to use the computer. That leaves “personal files and shortcuts” clutter as our only remaining headache. My previous use of 3rd party apps which help with such things also created a maintenance nightmare for me.
I’d rather it all be in one system and that’s what I thought “task view” was going to be. Even for just my files and needs, separate from my son’s, I was excited to keep system maintenance activities, shortcuts, and files separate on it’s own desktop view, as well as my other tasks and activities on their own desktop views, as well as my son’s. Right now, it just operates like a browser when you want to open other unrelated searches in another tab or window. I would like to inform you that this is by design. I request you to give your feedback using Feedback app. By the way, I typed “feedback” on Search and there were NO onscreen instructions. You have not been helpful at all. Rather, you have been dismissive, passed the buck, whatever you want to call it, and we are all getting tired of that by Microsoft. You’re obviously having difficulty so you’re whining about it.
In fact, if you go to the search bar and type “feedback”, you will get a link to the Windows Feedback app. There is nothing wrong with him recommending that you use this app; it is very handy and simple to use and will allow you to provide input on any Windows feature. Now, to address your issue with multiple desktops: I can understand the frustration, however, if you have ever used any of nearly a dozen virtual desktop programs from third party developers, you will know that all of them behave exactly this way.

Use Multiple Desktops on One Screen With the Virtual Desktop Feature in Windows 10 – CNET
I don’t mix the paperwork between the two and when I am sitting at one desk, I do not have the items from the other desk cluttering my work’s space or view. Using virtual desktops in Windows 10 can be highly advantageous, particularly for anyone with a single-monitor setup. To close a virtual desktop, open up the Task View pane and hover over the desktop you want to close until a small X appears in the upper-right corner. From the submenu that appears, click the name of the virtual desktop where you want to move the opened application.
